Taking Up Space: Women and Protest in the Indian Diaspora
Women’s Liberation Alliance if pleased to announce that in we will be hosting the Taking Up Space: Women and Protest in the Indian Diaspora exhibition at our launch event!
Protest is integral to the history of both India and British Indian communities in the UK and elsewhere. From standing up to colonial oppression to fighting for justice and equality, we have a legacy of protest that stretches across the world. Indian and British Indian women have been at the forefront of pushing forward progressive change in many different ways, fighting to ‘take up space’. Decades later, however, our communities still face similar issues to those presented in the exhibition. We at Platform for Indian Democracy have put the exhibition together to celebrate this inspiring legacy of protest; to learn from this history of dissent and to rise to the multiple challenges facing our communities.
This exhibition has been developed by Platform for Indian Democracy and created by the artist Megan Drabble.
